Contour Mouse Optical

The Contour Mouse Optical from Contour Design is an ergonomic mouse designed for workstations that require above average clicking or cursor movement. The contoured shape of the CMO ‘perfectly fits’ your hand, no matter what size it is or whether you are right- or left-handed. This ‘perfectly fitted’ mouse allows the hand to easily control the basic functions of the mouse while reducing any fatigue that would otherwise result from constantly using a uniformly shaped or ambidextrous mouse. With the CMO, the mouse is meant to perfectly fit your hand, not your hand the mouse. This design principle is just good ergonomics put to effective use.

• Reduces Pronation: There is a notch on one side in which to place your thumb, and the mouse slopes downward on the opposite side. This puts your hand at a 20° angle, which is a more natural position for your hand.
• No Need to Grip:
• This design means that the force of gravity on the hand alone provides all the control required to move the mouse; there is no need to grip the mouse. The black rubberized coating increases the coefficient of static friction, further reducing any grip force requirements.
• Reduces Pain and Force of Clicking:
• The tips of the fingers should hang over the end of the mouse slightly, which allows the user to click with the base of the first segment of the finger - meaning the user is not bending, hovering or lifting up the finger, resulting in approximately 1/10th of the muscles required to perform the clicking action. Because the fingers are not poised in preparation to click, the 'clicking' fingers remain relaxed, outstretched and supported at all times.

• Multiple Sizes for both Left and Right Hands:
• The Contour Optical Mouse is available in Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-Large for the right hand and Small, Medium and Large for the left hand. To determine which size is best for you, click here.
• Sculpted Elevated Buttons: This enables the hand to remain open with the fingers extended in a ready position for quick button activation. Buttons are elevated and shaped to reduce excessive load on the fingertips.
• Thumb Support with Integrated Scroll Wheel & Two Position Rocker Switch (Contour Mouse Classic Plus (CMO5) models do not have Scroll Wheel): The 2 position side rocker switch uses very light touch internal switches and are designed not to require pinch force to activate. The switches "click" with a very slight forward or backward motion of the thumb. The switch 'rocker' is rubber coated and textured to provide maximum grip, with little effort. (The CMO5 is available for those users who want to eliminate vertical scroll wheel movements, and is identical to the CMO in all other aspects.)
• Black rubberized coating to prevent hand slippage: Unlike the previous PMO, the CMO has a black rubberized coating to reduce your hand slipping on the surface of the mouse while moving it, thus enhancing your grip on the 'gripless' mouse. The black rubberized coating increases the coefficient of static friction, further reducing any grip force requirements.
• Elevated Palm Support: Reduces pressure on the wrist by keeping it off the desk top. Maintains a straighter wrist alignment and minimizes Lateral Deviation. Balances the hand in a neutral, tilted posture. Prevents static grip by allowing the hand to rock freely.
• Multipe Platform Compatibility: The Contour Optical Mouse supports both PS/2 and USB connections, providing support for the majority of currently assembled and older computer systems.
• Programmable Software:
• Using the software bundled with the unit allows customization of the Contour Mouse Optical to accomplish tasks faster and easier. Assign distinct functions to each button individually.

  • Find out what port you will use to connect your CMO or CMO5 to your computer. Refer to these tables if you're not sure what connections are available on your system.
  • If your computer has a USB port, we strongly recommend you use the native USB connection on your CMO or CMO5 rather than using the optional PS/2 adapter which is only available by special request.
  • Contour mice work with the operating system's (OS) built-in drivers on all of the ports shown.
